"Time and again food has been left out of their reach, or the lid is left on,
which is difficult for them to take off."
On average, hospitals spend £8.54 on food per patient per day, according to
Department of Health statistics, although the amount varies widely.
Andy Burnham, the Shadow Health Secretary, said: “Hospitals should not be
cutting corners on food to make easy savings. Good food is an important part
of good patient care.”
The institutions that failed to meet the CQC's standards are: Newham General
Hospital, Bedford Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn,
Milton Keynes Hospital, Alderney Hospital, Queen's Hospital in Romford,
Chesterfield Royal
